Atrazine: Endocrine Disruptor Extraordinaire

Atrazine: Endocrine Disruptor Extraordinaire

November 06, 20231 min read

Second only to glyphosate, Atrazine is a top weed killer globally. Linked to hormone disruption, cancers, birth defects, and a host of other health problems, it was banned in the European Union in 2004. The U.S.? We still dump 70 million pounds of it across the fruited plain. And the Environmental Infection Agency (did I just say that?) Protection Agency is what I meant. Anyway, they say it's one of the most commonly reported contaminants in groundwater and public drinking water. Why is that? Because it takes decades to degrade.

Atrazine was banned in Germany in 1991 and even 20 years after the ban, the groundwater concentrations had no considerable decrease. So it should come as no surprise that around 30 million Americans in 28 states have some level of atrazine in their drinking water.

This is one compelling reason you need to filter your drinking water. A reverse osmosis system will remove atrazine. Activated Carbon and Ion Exchange Resin filters will also remove it. You should be able to trust the water you serve in your own home. And there's this: Syngenta , the manufacturer of atrazine was acquired by state-owned ChemChina for $43 billion in 2017. Just sayin'
